EV Charging
Charging Infrastructure for City Fleet
The City of Livermore was awarded a $1.6 Million grant from the California Energy Commission's Charging Infrastructure for Government Fleets program. This highly competitive statewide program supports public agencies in accelerating the adoption of zero-emission vehicle technologies.
The grant will be used to add 100 electric vehicle charging ports to five municipal facilities. This is a huge step in electrifying our fleet and working toward our goal of a 100% zero-emission fleet by 2045.
The chargers will be installed by January 2027 at the following locations:
- City Hall
- Police Department
- Maintenance Service Center
- Water Reclamation Plant
- Livermore Municipal Airport.
Civic Center Solar EV Chargers
The City of Livermore is driving on sunshine! In March 2024, the City installed two solar electric vehicle (EV) chargers on the Civic Center campus. The chargers are off-the-grid and have a battery that can be used for power during emergencies.
The City paid for the chargers with a rebate from the US Department of Energy (DOE). Livermore’s project was the first to be awarded under this new rebate program.
Representatives from DOE hosted an event at the Civic Center Library on August 30, 2024, to celebrate this achievement. The event coincided with DOE’s “Resiliency Month,” highlighting DOE efforts to promote climate resilience in local communities.
Public EV Charging Hubs
The City is partnering with Ava Community Energy to install public fast charging hubs on City-owned property. The first hub is under construction downtown next to the future L St Parking Garage (behind the First Street Ale House). This hub will include 32 fast chargers and 18 Level 2 chargers and is estimated to be completed by the end of 2025.
The City is exploring additional public charging hub locations including:
- Civic Center Library (in design)
- Rincon Library
- Trader Joe’s shopping center
- Robert Livermore Community Center
- 2164 2nd Street
- Angled street parking in downtown
EV Charging Ordinance
Effective January 1, 2023, the City’s EV Charging Ordinance requires new residences and businesses in Livermore to install more EV chargers than required by the State building code. This ordinance will ensure that new development in Livermore is ready to meet existing and future EV charging demands.
