2025 Updated State Fire Hazard Severity Zone Maps
The establishment of Local Response Area (LRA) Fire Hazard Severity Zones (FHSZ) was a result of the 1991 Oakland Hills Fire. The map was revised in 2007 and again in 2024, with its release on February 24, 2025, in accordance with Government Code 51178. In the current version the LRA is broken down into 3 categories: Moderate, High, and Very High. The creation of the current map is based on new science, ember spread and local climate data. The modeling looks at the probability of an area burning and expected fire behavior under extreme fuel and weather conditions and identifies the “Hazard” level in each geographical area.
The City of Livermore is required under Government Code 51178.5 to make the maps available for public review and comment, and shall designate by ordinance their Moderate, High, and Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone within 120 days of receiving the State Fire Marshal recommendations per Government Code 51179.

Wildfire Preparedness
Here in Livermore, we have experienced and will experience wildfires. It is important to take the proper steps in order to ensure our safety in the event of a wildfire.
In a wildfire, you could be asked to evacuate. If you do evacuate your home do not return to your home until the authorities say that it is safe to do so.
The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department also has information regarding disaster preparedness for you to review.
Genasys Protect is an evacuation management tool used by first responders. Residents are encouraged to Know Your Zone by visiting the community-facing Genasys Protect site to find the zone you live in. First responders will reference your zone in emergency alerts, like AC Alert.
Before Wildfire:
- Create a wildfire evacuation plan for your home, family, and pets.
- Create an Emergency Kit for every household member.
- Harden your home by using/installing fire ignition-resistant materials around your home.
- Remove all debris from gutters, windows, deck, roof and vents.
- Keep grass at or below 4 inches.
- Keep a 30-100 feet safety zone around your home clear of trees, shrubs, dead or overhanging branches, and debris.
- Keep all flammable materials away from walls in your home and 30 feet away outside of home.
Wildfire Warning/Precautionary:
- Be prepared for possible evacuation.
- Position your vehicle for a rapid departure.
