How We Operate
Bay Area Wastewater Infrastructure
Our wastewater facility is one of more than forty Bay Area wastewater treatment facilities and part of more than 16,000 miles of sewer pipes that discharge billions of gallons of treated water per year into the San Francisco Bay.
Wastewater treatment facilities use a variety of treatment technologies to clean water, similar to processes in nature. All facilities must meet robust, science-based standards that are set by state and local regulators.
You can learn more about the regional wastewater infrastructure here.
Livermore's Wastewater Treatment Facility
Our Plant treats 2.3 billion gallons of wastewater each year. 1.6 billion gallons of this treated wastewater is discharged into San Francisco Bay, while the rest is used locally as recycled water.
