Street Sweeping
Livermore Keeps On Sweeping
The City of Livermore maintains a street sweeping program to comply with provisions of the federally mandated Clean Water Act. Street sweeping helps to remove pollutants which potentially can drain into the City's arroyos and into San Francisco Bay.
To improve effectiveness of the Street Sweeping Program, the City staff asks that you park your cars off the street on your scheduled sweeping day. Sweeping around parked cars requires more time and is a dangerous maneuver. Moving your cars will allow the sweeper to do a better job for you and your neighbors.
Leaf Removal Season
In the fall, uncollected leaves can cause our streets to flood. Our Public Works team is dedicated to helping Livermore neighbors keep their community clear of road hazards. We’ve created a Leaf Pick-Up program free of charge for our residents.
The program is in addition to Livermore Sanitation’s regular bin collection and aligns with neighborhood residential street sweeping schedules but is only seasonal.
Program Dates
Depending on the weather, the program typically kicks off the week AFTER Thanksgiving and continues monthly until about mid-February. If the rainy season begins sooner or ends later, the program dates adjust.
Leaf Pick-Up Program Schedule
Excess leaves piled neatly beside green bins are typically picked up one day before the regularly scheduled street sweeping day (but can sometimes be collected on the same day of the regularly scheduled sweeping day, depending on workload).
Example: If the street is scheduled to be swept on Thursday, the leaves will likely be picked up on Wednesday (but could be collected on Thursday).
How to Pile Excess Leaves
Residents are encouraged to always fill their green bins with collected leaves first (or purchase Kraft Bags from LSI for your leaf collection). Only ONCE the green bin is full, should residents rake excess leaves into piles for collection.
TIP:
- If your bins are out for collection, pile your excess leaves beside the bins.
- If your bins are not out for collection, keep your excess leaf piles visible at roadside for collection.
REMEMBER:
- Place your leaf pile at least one foot away from the curb, storm drains, and clear of cars, boats (at least six feet away), and out of the bike lanes.
Holidays
If your street sweeping day falls on a City holiday, your excess leaves will not be collected until the following week.
Need More Help?
If the scheduled pick-up day is not sufficient, residents can also put the leaves in bags and call (925) 960-8020 or submit a request online at City of Livermore (311service.com). The bags will be picked up within one to two business days.
Please note that the bags must contain leaves only. City staff will not pick up bags that contain other items or materials.
How to Use the Street Sweeping Schedule Map
- Locate your street sweeping area by pinpointing on this map or typing your address in the search bar. (click for larger image).
- Click on “Route Details” to get information on when the street sweeper will be in your area. This is the day the sweeper will be in your area each month, regardless of the date.
- If your street sweeping day falls on a City holiday, your street will be swept the following week. For instance, if Monday is your street sweeping day and it falls on a City holiday, your street will be swept the following Monday.
- If you are unsure of your scheduled day, call the Public Works Maintenance Division at (925) 960-8020, between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, or between 6 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Fridays.
