StopWaste Waste Prevention Grant Funding Program

Funding opportunities available through StopWaste with an application deadline of February 24, 2025:

Surplus Food Donation Equipment Grants

  • Provide funding to strengthen the capacity of non-profit organizations to safely recover and redistribute edible surplus food generated in Alameda County, increasing the volume of food available to help nourish communities in Alameda County. These grants support the acquisition of essential equipment, to improve efficiency and building capacity for the edible food recovery components of SB 1383. Up to $150,000 is available for eligible Surplus Food Donation Equipment Grants, with a maximum of $10,000 per applicant.

Reusable Foodware Cafeteria Grants

  • For innovative projects to replace single-use disposable foodware with reusable systems in closed-environment* cafeterias and similar dining facilities in Alameda County. These locations offer ideal conditions for piloting reusable foodware systems due to their controlled operations and typically high volume of meals served. Proposals ranging from $25,000 to $50,000 will be considered.

Reusable Transport Packaging Equipment Grants

  • Replacing disposable plastic film with reusable pallet wraps or rubber pallet bands not only prevents waste but also saves money and makes securing loads onto pallets faster and safer for workers. Other reusable transport packaging materials eligible for grant funding include durable pallets, hand-held crates, bulk containers, refillable drums, and dunnage. Up to $75,000 is available
