On March 1, 2021, the City Council made updating the Livermore General Plan and Housing Element Update a priority for the next two years.

In October 2021, the City Council appointed a General Plan Advisory Committee to work with City staff on updating Livermore’s General Plan, originally adopted in 2004. This comprehensive update will guide the city’s growth through the year 2045, with a focus on land use, transportation, sustainability, and the conservation of resources and open space.

Over the past three and a half years, the Advisory Committee has reviewed and recommended updates to the Community Vision, land use designations, goals, and policies for consideration by the Planning Commission and City Council.

City staff are currently preparing a draft General Plan Update, which will be presented to the General Plan Advisory Committee in summer 2025. A public draft will be released in fall 2025 for community review, feedback, and questions.

Following community outreach and additional input from the Advisory Committee, the final General Plan Update will be presented to the Planning Commission and City Council for adoption.
