The current layout of Fire Station 6 is not efficient for the firefighters or public. Uninviting and outdated bedrooms, kitchen, and female bathroom/locker area are separated by the fire engine therefore causing the need to cross the fire engine bay to shower, change, and/or cook.

Visitors frequent this facility which is home to the Livermore Centennial Light Bulb. The reception area is too small, and the entrance is not well marked. People must cross the fire engine driveway to enter the facility. In addition, the Centennial Light Bulb is located in the fire engine bay.

This project will provide improvements to Fire Station 6. The project objective is to design and construct a fire station with upgrades to the building layout, utilities, and equipment that will serve the Livermore community for years to come. 

The project will include: 

• Bringing the station up to current codes and functionality for firefighters and the public,
• A fully equipped west wing consisting of five relocated bedrooms to provide optimal space layout,
• A renovated lounge, kitchen, locker rooms and restrooms,
• Offices, a lobby for public entry, and a multi-purpose room with the Centennial Light Bulb moved to the multi-purpose room,
• A public parking lot and surface improvements next to the lobby, and
• A new HVAC system and roof.
