The Holmes Street Decorative Fence Replacement Project will replace approximately 3,175 linear feet of deteriorated wood fence along Holmes Street. Fence replacement will take place on the west side of Holmes Street from Mocho Street to Elaine Avenue and on the east side of Holmes Street from Anza Way to Vancouver Way (see map below).

The existing decorative fence was originally constructed in 1959 and consists of brick pilasters and redwood slats. It has reached the end of its service life, and its deterioration has led several property owners to install secondary fences adjacent to the original fence, resulting in a mix of inconsistent replacements and temporary repairs.

The project will replace the existing fence with a new 7-foot-tall painted redwood fence. The goal is to beautify this gateway into the City and improve pedestrian safety along the sidewalks.
