The City of Livermore would like to congratulate Pacific Fusion on selecting Albuquerque, New Mexico, as the site for its new demonstration system facility, and the City of Albuquerque for securing this significant investment. As a finalist for the billion-dollar project, Livermore is ready to apply the momentum gained through this intense, competitive process to drive future job creation efforts.
“We extend our congratulations to Pacific Fusion and Albuquerque,” said Mayor John Marchand. “The hard work our staff put in trying to bring this company to Livermore has made an already innovative city even more efficient and ready for future investment. Livermore is firmly on the map as a global hub for science and technology, and every company looking to pioneer the next breakthrough should know that our doors are wide open.”
Mayor Marchand further emphasized, “Because of our unique assets, Livermore is the best place in the world for a fusion company to succeed, and we are ready to prove it.”
The Livermore offer was anchored by a private, 50-acre parcel (SMP 39) in the emerging Isabel Corridor. This R&D-zoned area is already home to major corporations like Gillig, Dräxlmaier Group, Tesla, and Lam Research. Staff from the City Manager’s Office, Community Development, and Innovation and Economic Development successfully compressed an entitlement process that typically takes 12 months into just four months, a testament to the city’s commitment to partnership.
“The opportunity to host a world-changing project like the Pacific Fusion facility speaks volumes about Livermore’s competitive position,” added Director of Innovation and Economic Development Brandon Cardwell. “We wish Pacific Fusion the best, and we will continue to support the fusion industry, building on Livermore’s core value proposition of unparalleled talent, prime location, and history of scientific firsts.”
Building upon the lessons learned from the Pacific Fusion recruitment, the city is launching a strategic program in 2026 to support innovative businesses and enhance economic vitality. This program introduces new tools, resources, and processes designed to shorten development timelines and accelerate the path to market for innovative businesses locating in Livermore. More information on this new program will be available in the coming months.
