California Energy Commission Awards City of Livermore $1.6 Million for EV Charging Infrastructure

Post Date:07/10/2025

The City of Livermore has secured a $1.6 million grant from the California Energy Commission (CEC) to expand its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure.

Awarded as part of the CEC’s Charging Infrastructure for Government Fleets program, the grant will help fund the installation of 100 EV charging ports across city facilities, enabling the city to transition its light-duty fleet to electric alternatives. Installation is expected to be completed by 2027.

“Receiving this grant is pivotal to our sustainability efforts, and its competitive nature underscores its significance, as Livermore was one of only three Bay Area cities selected,” said Mayor John Marchand. “The funding moves us closer to a 100% zero-emission fleet and allows us to demonstrate our commitment to becoming a recognized leader in climate action.”

The grant program is designed to support the city’s light-duty fleet vehicles, such as pickup trucks, vans and sedans. However, the charging ports can also accommodate medium- and heavy-duty fleet vehicles, including bucket, dump, and fire trucks.

The Livermore City Council accepted the grant award at its June 9 meeting. This project aligns with the city’s five-year Strategic Plan and Climate Action Plan, implementing goals that support the community’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
